Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The combination of “stored credentials are out of date” and “Something went wrong [4qm45]” usually indicates that the cached Microsoft 365 sign-in credentials need to be refreshed.
I would try the following in this order:
- Close all Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
Open Windows Settings → Accounts → Access work or school and check whether the affected work/school account is listed. If it is disconnected or showing an error, reconnect it.
Open Credential Manager:
Search for Credential Manager from the Start menu.
Select Windows Credentials.
Remove Microsoft 365/Office-related cached credentials (for example entries containing `MicrosoftOffice`, `ADAL`, or `OneAuth`).
Restart the computer.
- Open Word again and try Sign in.
If the problem persists, run the Microsoft 365 Sign-in troubleshooter through the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA). This can detect authentication and Office account problems that are not always visible in the Office UI.
Also make sure that Windows date/time are correct and that the device has normal internet access. Authentication can fail if the system clock is significantly out of sync.
If this is a work or school account, the Microsoft Entra ID sign-in may also be affected by Conditional Access, MFA, device registration, or an account/license issue. In that case, the Microsoft 365 administrator should check the user's sign-in logs.
Since the error includes a Correlation ID and timestamp, I would keep those details when contacting the administrator or Microsoft Support. They can be useful for tracing the failed authentication attempt.
I would avoid repeatedly deleting random Office folders or reinstalling Office until the cached credentials and account connection have been checked first.
