cannot edit my word or excel files

My Microsoft 365 Personal subscription renewal was completed June 2026 (have order history of payment in my account profile). Able to edit existing word and excel files all through months of June and July without issue. Suddenly at the end of July and forward I am no longer able to edit existing files. Why?

This might be due to a digital certificate update that happened in mid July.
In order for me to find out if that's the case, and what your options are, I need to know -
What is your macOS version?
Is your office product purchased from Microsoft or from Apple?
