When I try to open notes on my android phone I get this message

Cannot Open Page

This page may have been moved, deleted, or you may have insufficient permissions to access it. Would you like to remove this preview card from Home?

What do I do?

It appears someone deleted all my OneNote pages. Are they backup anywear, on my phone or cloud?

I understand that when you try to open your notes in OneNote on your Android phone, a “Cannot Open Page” message appears, suggesting that the page may have been moved, deleted, or is no longer accessible.

To help narrow this down, could you please confirm:

Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account in OneNote?
Does this affect all notes or only certain preview cards on the OneNote Home page?
Can you open the affected notes in OneNote for the web using the same Microsoft account?
Are these notes stored in your own notebook, or in a notebook shared by someone else, OneDrive, or SharePoint?

For now, please do not remove the preview card until you confirm whether the original page is still available in the notebook or OneNote for the web.

All previews show up, however I can't open any of them. They appear to have been deleted due to a "code if conduct issue" which is not true. Can u find any backups for me? I spent years creating these. Thanks Ken

Hi Ken,

The preview cards may be cached references to the pages, so their presence alone does not confirm whether the original notes were permanently deleted.

As this is a user-to-user forum, we cannot access your account, investigate the reported “code of conduct” message, or locate backups on your behalf. Please try checking the following:

Sign in to OneNote for the web with the same Microsoft account and check whether the notebooks and pages are available there.

Check OneDrive, including its Recycle Bin, for the missing notebooks.

If you have used OneNote on a Windows PC or Mac, check the Notebook Recycle Bin/Deleted Notes and any local OneNote backups on that device.

On Android, open Notebooks, check More Notebooks, and look for any sync errors or Misplaced Sections.

Please also confirm:

Are you using a personal Microsoft account or a work/school account?

Do the affected notes belong to a notebook you created, or were the notebook or pages shared with you by another user?

I'm using a personal account.

I found notes I have deleted in the recycle bin, however I can't find the other notes.

My notes are my own and never have been shared with anyone else.

OneNote for the web showed my deleted pages but not the ones that I have not deleted.

personal account not shared with anyone.

I can see deleted files in OneNote for the web, however the ones I'm looking for are not there.

Notes were created on my adroid and at times modified on my own pc.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for confirming. Since the missing notes were created on your Android phone and sometimes modified on your PC, they may not have fully synced to OneDrive, so please do not sign out, reset, clear the app data, or reinstall OneNote on either device yet.

On the PC where you edited the notes, please open OneNote and check the following:

Select File > Info > View Sync Status and note any error code shown for the affected notebook.

Search All Notebooks for a phrase you remember from one of the missing pages and check Quick Notes and Misplaced Sections.

If the original page or section still appears, right-select it and check whether Page Versions is available.

Select History > Notebook Recycle Bin and check whether the missing pages are listed there.

In the desktop version of OneNote, select File > Info > Open Backups and inspect any available notebook backups.

Please also check More Notebooks > View Sync Errors in OneNote on Android. If you find any phone-only content, copy it elsewhere before making changes to the app.
