Outlook reverts to "setting things up" when I open it, then asks for my Comcast password. Although I can get my Comcast email on my phone, it is unable to set things up. I get the following error:

{"SessionId":"394797a3-a3ad-124b-be98-35e446aebde4","Timestamp":1788358471762,"Error":"INTERACTIONREQUIRED"}

Since it is their email service that is having an issue, and additionally they have a feature missing in the interface, it clearly indicates Outlook is not at fault here. You should contact Comcast for further assistance.

You may ask them that you need help generating an app password.

    Hi,

The INVALID CREDENTIALS INTERACTION REQUIRED means you need an App password to sign up. Xfinity has a guide on this:

    https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/help/l10n/en_US/ox.appsuite.user.sect.security.apppasswords.html

    1. Click the Settings icon on the right side of the menu bar. Click on Settings. In the sidebar, click on Security. Click on Application Passwords. The Application Passwords page will be displayed.
    2. In the Application drop-down below Add passwords, select the app for which you want to add a password. Enter a name for the new password in Password name. This name is later used for displaying the app's credentials.
    3. Click on Add new password. The Password Created window opens. It shows the user name for the login and an automatically created password. You can use those credentials to sign in to the selected app.

Use the password for signing in to Outlook and it should work.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

For a Comcast account in Outlook, a repeated sign-in loop usually means Outlook is holding stale credentials or Comcast is rejecting third-party app access even though web or phone access still works.

    Try this in order:

    1. In classic Outlook account setup, make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked.
    2. Close Outlook completely.
    3. Open Credential Manager from Windows, then remove saved credentials related to Outlook, Office, and Comcast.
    4. Open Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts.
    5. Remove the Comcast account from Outlook.
    6. Add the Comcast account again using setup from Mail > Email Accounts > New.
    7. Enter the full Comcast email address as the username and complete setup.
    8. If Outlook prompts again, enter the password once more and finish setup.

If Outlook still keeps asking for the password:

    • Verify the password carefully, including case sensitivity.
    • Make sure the username is the full email address.
    • If the password was changed recently, Outlook must be updated with the new password.
    • Comcast may require third-party email program access to be re-enabled for Outlook. In that case, Outlook can loop on password prompts even while mail still works on the Comcast website or phone.

If Outlook shows “Something went wrong” or cannot create the profile, check this Outlook setting:

    • In Outlook, the Allow Office to connect to the Internet option under Trust Center Privacy Options must be selected.

If the account works in webmail but Outlook for Windows still loops back to “setting things up”, removing cached credentials and recreating the account/profile is the supported path from the available guidance.
