To connect from iPad, Windows App can use the PC name of the remote PC. For a fully qualified name, use the PC’s fully qualified domain name (FQDN), which is the DNS host name + DNS domain name, for example server1.widgets.microsoft.com.
Ways to identify the PC name on Windows 11 Pro:
- Open Start > Settings > System > About.
- Check Device name under Device specifications. This is the computer name.
If Remote Desktop is being set up:
- On the remote PC, open Start > Settings > System > Remote Desktop.
- Turn on Remote Desktop and select Confirm.
- Note the PC name shown there.
For iPad connection with Windows App:
- Open Windows App on the iPad.
- Add a new PC.
- In PC Name, enter the remote PC’s hostname or IP address.
If using Microsoft Entra authentication with Remote Desktop Connection, the Computer field can use the NetBIOS domain name or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the remote PC, and the name must resolve to the remote PC’s IP address.
