To add more Chinese font styles such as 宋体, install the related Chinese language or supplemental font package in Windows.
If the fonts are needed system-wide
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Language or Language & region.
- Select Add a language.
- Add Chinese (Simplified, China) for Simplified Chinese fonts, or Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan/Hong Kong) for Traditional Chinese fonts.
- Install the language features.
- If prompted, sign out and sign back in.
If only the fonts are needed and the Windows display language should stay unchanged
- Open Settings > System > Optional features.
- On some Windows 10 versions, this may be under Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Optional features.
- Select Add a feature.
- Add the needed supplemental font package:
- Chinese (Simplified) Supplemental Fonts
- Chinese (Traditional) Supplemental Fonts
- Keep the device online, because Windows Update downloads the font files.
Fonts included in these packages
- Chinese (Simplified) Supplemental Fonts:
DengXian, FangSong, KaiTi, SimHei - Chinese (Traditional) Supplemental Fonts:
DFKai-SB, MingLiU, MingLiU_HKSCS, PMingLiU
If the goal is to display East Asian fonts correctly in Office documents, adding the corresponding East Asian language in Windows also downloads the related fonts and does not necessarily change the default Windows language.
