Problem description

I am experiencing an issue where the API Management Service's developer portal API details page appears blank, and confirmation emails to developers are not being sent. I am seeking guidance on diagnosing and resolving these problems.

Environment

Azure API Management Service, Email Notifications, Microsoft.ApiManagement/service

What I've already tried

I signed up via the developer portal again with a test user, checked spam folders and whitelisted the email address, accessed the user page to verify user status, and confirmed that the email templates are present and enabled. I also examined the activity logs and verified that the service is operational without any apparent outages.

Current status

I am looking for support to identify the root cause of the email notification failure and the blank API details page, and to receive guidance on troubleshooting steps or configuration adjustments needed to resolve these issues.

    Hi @Vic-9558 ,

Here are the most relevant things to check and the likely causes.

APIM email notifications have known limitations depending on the Azure subscription and APIM deployment context, Email notifications are temporarily suspended for certain subscription types, and this service is associated with a Pay As You Go subscription:

    • Free Trial subscriptions: Email functionality isn’t supported and can’t be enabled during the trial period.
    • Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) and Visual Studio / MSDN Dev/Test subscriptions: Email capability is temporarily suspended (and may also have notification template customization limitations).
    • Email functionality is temporarily suspended for the first 3 days after a service instance is created (paid subscriptions).
    • For APIM created using “classic SKUs”: email functionality is enabled no earlier than 72 hours after service creation.

So, the first diagnostic question is: what kind of Azure subscription is your APIM resource using (and when was the APIM instance created)? If it matches one of the blocked/suspended categories, that would directly explain why your confirmation/notification emails aren’t being delivered (even if templates exist and are enabled).

    Update:

We have enabled emails for this subscription since service has existed for several months.

Please see documentation Configure Notifications and Email Templates - Azure API Management | Microsoft Learn

The API Details blank might be due to the fact that developers can't sign in to view API Details. Customer should resend developer invites so users can sign in. If API details page is still unexpectedly blank, please validate the configuration and confirm if the issue still persists.

    Hope this helps!
