    Try this in order:

    1. Check where Copilot appears now in Word. Copilot may no longer be on the ribbon where it used to be. In Word, look for the Copilot Dynamic Action Button in the lower-right corner of the document.
    2. Confirm the account and license. If Copilot is missing in Word, it may not be included with the Microsoft 365 subscription in use, or it may be unavailable because of organization settings.
    3. Refresh the Microsoft 365 license. In Word on Windows:
      • Go to File > Account
      • Select Update License
      • Close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps
      In Word on Mac:
      • Select Word in the top menu
      • Select About Word
      • Select More Info...
      • Select Refresh License
      • Close open documents and restart Microsoft 365 apps
    4. Make sure Word is fully updated. The missing Copilot guidance says to ensure the app is on the latest build.
    5. Check privacy settings that can hide Copilot. In Windows:
      • Open a Microsoft 365 app
      • Go to File > Account
      • Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings
      • Make sure Experiences that analyze your content is turned on
      • Make sure All connected experiences is turned on
      On Mac:
      • Open Word
      • Go to Word > Preferences > Privacy
      • Turn on Experiences that analyze your content
      • Turn on All connected experiences
    6. If this is a work-managed Microsoft 365 installation, check the update channel. Copilot features are not available in Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel. Word must be on Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel. To check:
      • Open Word
      • Go to File > Account
      • Look in Product Information
      • If it shows Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, that is the cause
In that case, use Word for the web in the meantime or contact the internal help desk to move the device to the correct channel.
    7. If using Word for the web, refresh the browser page. If Copilot still does not appear, third-party cookies may be blocked, which can prevent license validation.
    8. If Edit with Copilot is the specific feature that is missing, that feature is still rolling out worldwide. It may only be available to Preview audiences for now. For enterprise users, it can be accessed through the Insiders or Frontier preview programs until full release.

If the goal is only to turn Copilot back on in Word and it was disabled, for personal Microsoft accounts the app setting Enable Copilot can be turned back on. If it is turned off, the Copilot icon on the ribbon is disabled and Copilot cannot be used in that app.
