Using Word on a Mac, page header text varies in appearance.

header text for different pages was spaced .5" from top. Some pages show different spacing. I would like to have all text consistent.

    How much content is in the headers? Visible content or blank paragraphs will push the header down and reduce the space that is available for the content of the main page. Click the ¶ icon on the Home tab to display nonprinting characters. You can activate the header/footer view and delete anything that shouldn't be there. The screen shot below shows an example of "excessive" text in the header which expands the header area downwards.

    You may be referring to Headings. Headers are the area at the tops of each page, while Headings are the titles you assign to parts of the document.

    If a Heading style has space before it in the Paragraph dialog, then you will get different results if the heading follows a Page Break. In that case the space before does not display as expected. This is a long-standing quirk of Word that you must work around. Microsoft apparently does not consider it a bug and there is no fix in the works.
