Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
This is a known Gmail sign-in issue in Outlook. The supported fix is to reset the Google consent and the saved Outlook Google IMAP credentials, then sign in again.
- Close Outlook.
- In a browser, sign in to the Google account.
- Open Manage your Google Account > Security.
- Go to Your connections to third-party apps & services > Microsoft apps & services > See Details.
- Select Remove all access, then confirm.
- In Windows, open Credential Manager.
- Select Windows Credentials.
- Under Generic credentials, remove entries that start with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 and include tp_google_imap_Oauth2. There are two credentials per Gmail account. Note: removing the wrong saved credentials can affect other signed-in accounts. If needed, the affected Gmail identity can be matched in this registry path:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities - Reopen Outlook.
- If the Gmail account is still in the profile, select the Sign in via browser prompt. If it was removed, go to File > Add account and add it again.
- During the Google browser sign-in, make sure the checkbox is selected for Microsoft apps & services to Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.
If using a fixed classic Outlook build, the error window may also show a Retry link that repeats the browser sign-in flow.
Also verify that IMAP is enabled in Gmail, because the same setup error can occur when IMAP is disabled for the Gmail account.
