Hotmail mailbox fails to open - Error 500 StartupData ServerError

My Outlook.com/Hotmail mailbox will not open.

My Microsoft account signs in successfully at account.microsoft.com and the Hotmail address is correctly shown as the email address for the account. Emails sent to the address are accepted and do not bounce.

However, opening Outlook.com consistently produces:

  • Error: 500
  • BootResult: fail
  • ersrc: StartupData
  • et: ServerError

I have reproduced the same error in an Edge InPrivate session, so it does not appear to be a browser cache/cookie issue.

I also tried Microsoft's Contact Support route for Outlook.com/Hotmail, but selecting "Outlook.com app support" simply opens the affected mailbox and immediately produces the same Error 500, so I cannot access support through Outlook itself.

Is there a way to have Microsoft check whether the Outlook.com mailbox is correctly provisioned or repair the mailbox on the server side?

Hello

I think there's something going on Microsoft's end right now. I am seeing many people reporting this issue on their service status page. However, there's an active service incident report on the commercial side. It can be related.
