Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
For a Sky email account hosted by Yahoo, the sign-in prompt is typically asking for the Yahoo/Sky account password, not an Outlook app password. If the sign-in now returns access denied, use this sequence:
- Confirm the account works in webmail first Sign in to the Sky/Yahoo mailbox in a browser. If browser sign-in fails, the issue is with the mail account credentials or provider-side verification and must be fixed there first.
- If the account uses extra security, create or refresh an app password Yahoo-managed accounts often require an app password for Outlook instead of the normal webmail password, especially when extra verification is enabled. If one already exists, generate a new one and use that in Outlook.
- Remove and add the account again in new Outlook In new Outlook, go to: Settings > Accounts > Your accounts Select Manage next to the affected account, remove it, then add it again.
- If the sign-in prompt keeps looping, repair or reset new Outlook Go to: Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options Try Repair first. If that does not help, use Reset, then open new Outlook and add the account again.
- If the account is still in classic Outlook anywhere, update the stored password there After changing the password with the email provider, Outlook may need the updated password entered again. If mail is not syncing and Outlook is not prompting to sign in, wait for the token to expire or force a new sign-in prompt by clearing the related MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 entries in Credential Manager > Windows Credentials > Generic credentials. These steps are intended to trigger a fresh sign-in and do not remove the account.
- If the issue started after a password change For Gmail/Yahoo accounts in classic Outlook, it can take about one hour for the OAuth token to expire before Outlook prompts for sign-in again.
If the mailbox opens in a browser but new Outlook still shows access denied, the most likely fixes are:
- re-add the account in Settings > Accounts > Your accounts
- use a fresh Yahoo/Sky app password if required
- repair or reset new Outlook
