On Windows 11 Home, the supported way to stop being forced to use a PIN is to turn off the Windows Hello-only setting, then remove the PIN.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under Additional settings, turn off For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in for Microsoft accounts on this device.
- Close and reopen Sign-in options if needed.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello), select Remove.
- Confirm with the account password when prompted.
If the PIN is still required after sleep:
- In Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options, check If you’ve been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again? and set it to Never if that option is available.
Important limitation:
- The provided guidance supports removing the PIN requirement.
- The provided guidance does not include a supported method to remove all sign-in protection and have no PIN or password at all.
If the Remove option is missing or grayed out:
- Make sure the Windows Hello-only setting above is turned off first.
- If the device is connected to a work or school account, that can enforce sign-in policies. Check Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and disconnect that account if it is still listed, then restart and try again.
If sign-in problems continue, Windows also provides reset options from the sign-in screen such as I forgot my password or I forgot my PIN.
