Hi, @tiamo zelan

May I know what troubleshooting steps have you already taken?

Have you tried manual repair instead? If you haven't tried it yet, please follow the steps below.

If you haven't tried anything yet please start by:

First, please check if your Microsoft 365 is active or if your Office license is listed. You can do this by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com/services if the subscription is active or if your Office license is listed, try these steps:

Repair Office apps:

  • Press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
  • Find Microsoft 365 or Office in the list, select it, then choose Change > Quick Repair.
  • If that doesn’t help, run the repair again but select Online Repair instead.

Check for updates:

  • Open any Office app (if it opens even briefly), go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
  • Restart your device after repair and try opening the apps again.

If the apps still don’t open, please let me know if you’re using Microsoft 365 or a one-time purchase version (like Office 2021), so I can guide you with the next specific steps.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions or concerns.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

Thanks!

Since the built-in Repair Now prompt did not help, the next step is a full Online Repair of Office.

    1. Restart the PC.
    2. Open Settings.
    3. Go to Apps > Installed apps (Windows 11) or Apps & features (Windows 10).
    4. Find Microsoft 365 or Office.
    5. Select it, then choose Modify.
    6. In How would you like to repair your Office Programs, select Online Repair > Repair.

This repairs the entire Office suite and is more thorough than Quick Repair.

If Word still does not open after that:

    1. Open Word first if possible, then use File > Open > Browse.
    2. Select the document.
    3. Select the arrow next to Open.
    4. Choose Open and Repair.

If files are opening in the wrong app or Word documents are not associated correctly:

    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Go to Programs > Default Programs.
    3. Under Set a default for a file type or link type, find the Word file type and set it to Word.

If multiple Office versions are installed, uninstall the versions that are not needed, then restart the PC. Multiple Office versions can cause files to open incorrectly or prevent normal app behavior.

If Office shows "Office is busy" or "Unable to start Office", wait a few minutes, restart the PC, and try again. If that continues, uninstall and reinstall Office by using the Microsoft uninstall troubleshooter.
