Unable to Create Any VM on Azure Free Trial - NotAvailableForSubscription Error

Hi Azure community,

I recently created an Azure Free Trial account, but I am unable to create any Virtual Machine.

Whenever I try to create a VM, I receive the following error:

“This size is currently unavailable in [location] for this subscription: NotAvailableForSubscription.”

I have tried multiple VM sizes and several Azure regions, but I receive the same error every time.

Could someone please explain why this is happening and how I can resolve it? Is there a subscription or quota restriction on my Free Trial account that needs to be enabled or changed?

I would like to use Azure VMs for learning and practicing for my Azure certifications, so I would really appreciate any help.

Hi @mulubrihan sintayehu ,

there are some limitations in availability/capacity of different VM series.

The following VM series are affected by these capacity growth restrictions:

VM category	Impacted VM series
Compute optimized	F, Fs, Fsv2

Compute optimized	F, Fs, Fsv2
General purpose	D, Ds, Dv2, Dsv2, Dv3, Dsv3, Dv4, Dsv4, Ddv4, Ddsv4, Dav4, Dasv4, B, Bs, Av2, Amv2
Memory optimized	Ev3, Esv3, Ev4, Esv4, Edv4, Edsv4, Eav4, Easv4, G, Gs
Storage optimized	Ls, Lsv2

The recommendation is to use the latest VM series like v5, v6 and v7.

I understand that some VM series have capacity restrictions and that the recommendation is to use newer VM generations such as v5, v6, or v7.

However, I have already tried multiple VM sizes and different Azure regions, including newer VM series, and I still receive the same error:

"This size is currently unavailable in [location] for this subscription: NotAvailableForSubscription."

My Azure account is a Free Trial subscription, and I am only trying to create a standard VM with a maximum of 4 vCPUs for learning purposes.

Could you please confirm whether Free Trial subscriptions have an additional restriction that prevents VM creation, or whether my subscription needs a quota/capacity limit increased or enabled?

If newer v5/v6/v7 VM sizes are supported on the Free Trial, could you please recommend a specific VM size and region that should work with a Free Trial subscription?

I have been unable to create a single VM despite trying multiple sizes and regions, so I would really appreciate guidance on what I need to change on my subscription.

please navigate in the Azure Portal to https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Policy/PolicyMenuBlade.MenuView/~/Assignments/%23view/Microsoft_Azure_Policy/PolicyMenuBlade/~/Assignments/undefined

please check the following policy:

In the list you can verify which regions are allowed for deployments in your Azure Subscription:

In the "Parameter value" of "allowedLocations" are the available Azure regions listed for your resources.
