If the device was locked with Windows lock from the Microsoft account device page, the documented community resolution is that the way back into the device is to reset Windows.
- On the sign-in screen, select the Power button.
- Hold Shift and select Restart.
- In Windows Recovery Environment, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Reset this PC.
- Choose the option to keep personal files if that option is offered. Apps will need to be reinstalled.
If the device is using a Microsoft account password rather than a remote lock state, these are the supported password paths:
- On the sign-in screen, select I forgot my password.
- Or select Sign-in options > Web sign-in, sign in, then select Forgot my password.
- Or use Reset password: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx
If already signed in with a PIN on Windows, the password can be changed in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Password > Change. If the current password is forgotten, select Forgot my current password.
Important: Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password, and support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
If none of the reset or recovery options work, use the Sign-in helper or Contact Support paths in the support articles.
