Copilot in Word usually has not been removed. In many cases, the entry point changed.
Try this in order:
- Look in the lower-right corner of the document Microsoft moved Copilot in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to the Copilot Dynamic Action Button. It may no longer appear where it used to on the ribbon or beside selected text.
- Open Word with the correct signed-in account Copilot only appears for accounts that have access to it. If the wrong account is signed in, the button may not appear.
- Check whether the account has Copilot access If Copilot is not included with the Microsoft 365 subscription, or if organizational settings do not allow it, the button will not appear.
- If the button is still missing, check the common causes
Microsoft identifies these as the main reasons:
- license or account issue
- build version
- update channel
- privacy settings
- If Copilot works but the old button is gone That usually means only the entry point changed, not the feature itself.
- If using Edit with Copilot specifically That feature is still rolling out. If it does not appear, it may not be available yet in the current build. For some users, it is available first through Preview, Insiders, Frontier features, or the Beta Channel depending on subscription type.
What changed:
- Copilot’s capabilities in Word did not change.
- Microsoft changed how it is opened.
- The new default location is the lower-right corner of the document.
A simple path to resolve it:
- Open Word.
- Open any document.
- Check the lower-right corner for the Copilot button.
- If it is not there, verify the signed-in account and Copilot access.
- Then review build/update/privacy settings if needed.
