Keeps getting an image error 528892 and windows 10 stops at 35% on the downloads and reinstalls Windows 7. I found a suggestion yesterday and I didn't have time to check it out and I couldn't find the thread to check it out today. I found the question again but couldn't find the result to try to correct the problem it stated to try and turn off all start]up apps when the computer starts -up I tried but to no avail. Thanks again for your time,Terry

With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade.

You will need at least 40GB of free space on your C drive for the upgrade.

Please ensure you download the ISO in the same language as you use for the Windows UI, follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO, not USB

When the ISO file completes downloading

Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.

Very Important - ensure you select the option to keep your files and apps.

For a Windows 10 upgrade that stops around 35% and rolls back to Windows 7, the supported fixes are:

Disconnect nonessential hardware Unplug devices such as printers, scanners, speakers, USB drives, external hard drives, and docking stations before trying the upgrade again.
Install all available Windows updates first Before retrying the upgrade, make sure Windows 7 has the latest important updates and hardware driver updates installed.
Remove non-Microsoft antivirus or other third-party security software Third-party security software can block the upgrade. Uninstall it before retrying. Make sure installation media and activation information are available so it can be reinstalled later.
Uninstall nonessential software Older or unnecessary applications can interfere with setup. Remove anything not needed for the upgrade.
Check Device Manager for driver problems Open Device Manager and look for devices with a yellow exclamation mark. For any problem device, right-click it and choose Update Driver Software or Uninstall.
Do a clean boot and try the upgrade again Since startup apps were already disabled, use a full clean restart into Windows and then retry the upgrade.
Repair the disk Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

This will schedule a disk repair and require a restart.
Repair system files Open Command Prompt as administrator and run:

Make sure there is enough free space Windows needs at least 16 GB free for a 32-bit upgrade or 20 GB for a 64-bit upgrade.
If the upgrade still fails, contact Microsoft support The Windows upgrade error guidance recommends contacting Microsoft support if the common fixes do not resolve the issue.

Note: chkdsk /f C: and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth require administrator permissions. chkdsk will modify the disk to repair errors, so save work first and expect a restart.
