Try these steps in order:
- Use the normal shutdown path first: Start > Power > Shut down.
- Turn off Fast startup:
- Open Control Panel.
- Go to System and Security > Power Options.
- Select Choose what the power buttons do.
- Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Under Shutdown settings, clear Turn on fast startup.
- Save the changes.
- Check the power button action:
- In Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Set When I press the power button to Shut down.
- Save changes.
- Restart the laptop and test shutdown again.
If Windows is frozen and the laptop will not respond, a forced shutdown can be used by pressing and holding the power button until the device turns off. This can cause unsaved work to be lost, so use it only when normal shutdown does not work.
