comultrus.co.in popups are constant on the right side of my screen. They are full of fear-inspiring phrases, such as 5 viruses found, TROJAN found in /Win 32 or system error! The pop-ups cannot be shut down without another popping up within seconds. If the pop-up is clicked, a McAfee or Norton web offer is opened.

Those are likely push notifications coming from Microsoft Edge.
Open Microsoft Edge and copy/paste the following into the address bar then click enter.
edge://settings/privacy/sitePermissions/allPermissions/notifications
Look below where it says Allowed to send notifications and you should see an entry that ends with comultrus.co.in
Click on the three dots to the right of the entry and either Remove or Block it.
Repeat for any other entries that you didn't intentionally set.

Those alerts are typically fake browser notifications or pop-ups, not proof that Norton or McAfee is installed or that the PC is infected.
Try this in order:
If the messages appear in the lower-right corner even when Edge is closed, that strongly indicates website notifications were allowed for a malicious site. Blocking that site in Edge notifications is the key fix.
If the pop-ups are constant and Edge becomes unresponsive, use Task Manager first, then remove the notification permission and extensions before browsing again.
