What is this annoying strategy used by Microsoft?

Honest to god I never do this, go online and rant over something that I can just ignore. But this is honestly something that pissed me off way more than it should have. How come my microsoft edge browser keeps on changing the default search engine to Bing even though I specifically change it to google? They keep on doing this. It's been like 5 times. But this time, they actually managed to screw up to a new point where if you try to add a google as the default browser, its not even there in the list. I had to add it manually. What is it with you guys? Rather than better integrating bing and improving its experience, you thought "I know what would work to increase user retention! Just make it unnecessary complicated and extremely convoluted for them to leave! No one leaves, better retention." Anyways, boooooooooo.

    Hi Sari Makarem,

I'm sorry you've had such a frustrating experience. When you deliberately choose a setting and then find yourself having to revisit it repeatedly, it's understandable to feel annoyed and question whether your preferences are being respected.

You're also not the only person who has expressed concerns about Edge's search engine behavior. Similar complaints have been raised by other users, so I can appreciate why recurring experiences like this can be especially discouraging.

That said, I want to be transparent about the limitations of this forum. Microsoft Q&A is primarily a peer-to-peer community platform. Contributors and moderators here do not have access to Microsoft's internal product teams, development decisions, telemetry, or engineering investigations. We cannot determine whether a particular behavior is intentional, confirm the reasoning behind product design choices, or provide official explanations for why something may have occurred.

Because of those limitations, the most effective way to ensure your concerns are seen by the people who actually design and maintain Microsoft Edge is to submit feedback directly through the browser using Help and feedback > Send feedback. Feedback submitted through that channel goes to the Edge team and carries significantly more value for product review than comments posted in a community discussion.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Even when feedback is strongly worded, it helps highlight areas where users feel their experience, expectations, or trust are not being met.
