Guardian Consent

If the account keeps asking for guardian consent, the most likely causes are:

• the child account is still marked as under statutory age
• consent was granted by a different adult account
• the adult account being entered is not the same one that originally granted consent

Try this in order:

1. Use the consent request link from the email request and sign in with the adult Microsoft account that originally gave consent.
   • Microsoft states that only the adult who originally granted consent can manage or remove it.
   • If the wrong adult account is used, the child account may not appear under Manage consent.
2. Check whether the child account appears under consent management.
   • If nothing appears, common reasons are:
     • consent has not yet been given
     • consent was granted by another adult
     • consent was given using another Microsoft account
3. If the child account was removed from the Family group, sign in to trigger the consent request again.
   • If it does not prompt automatically, repeat the consent request by signing in here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2200820
4. If the account is actually old enough but Microsoft still treats it as a child account, correct the birth date.
   • First sign in to the profile page: https://account.microsoft.com/profile/edit-profile-information
   • If the account shows “Parent or guardian consent is required for this account”, start a consent request at https://login.live.com, choose I’m a parent or guardian, then sign in with any adult personal Microsoft account and approve.
   • After consent is granted, go to Manage child accounts and select Edit this child's personal info to update the birth date.
5. If the adult account that originally granted consent cannot be accessed, recover that adult account first.
   • Microsoft warns that if the adult cannot access that account, the child may lose access to the child account.

7. If the consent flow still fails after using the correct adult account, contact Microsoft Support.
   • Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details, but they can route the issue correctly.
