OneDriveStandaloneSuite taking up enormous amount of disc space on my macbook

Specifically, the folder Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.OneDriveStandaloneSuite is taking up over 56GB (_giga_bytes) on my hard drive, which is more than the size of the files that I have stored on OneDrive.

I do not (that I know of) have any options selected that store all files on my machine (and I can go to various folders and verify that it downloads files as I open them).

How is this possible?

    Dear G,

Unfortunately, as a forum moderator, I am not able to inspect your Mac’s OneDrive cache or storage configuration to diagnose and fix this directly. My role here is limited to general guidance you can apply from your side. From my research, the UBF8T346G9.OneDriveStandaloneSuite folder is associated with OneDrive’s File Provider cache on macOS. Files may exist in both the OneDrive sync location and cache path. In some cases, these are APFS clones that share the same physical disk space, so the folder’s reported size may not equal the additional disk space it consumes.

First, confirm that OneDrive reports Your files are synced, then verify that your important recent files are available on OneDrive.com.

In Finder, open OneDrive under Locations, right click any files or folders that do not need offline access, and select Free Up Space. Files with a cloud icon are online only, while files marked Always Keep on This Device are stored locally and use disk space.

Note: macOS storage utilities may show categories rather than actual files. You can check the storage available under System Settings > General > Storage.

For reference, see Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac.

If Free Up Space does not help, do not manually delete the OneDrive Group Containers folders. Instead, use Microsoft’s supported OneDrive reset procedure. Resetting OneDrive does not delete your files or data, but OneDrive will perform a full sync afterward.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
