My computer doesn't automatically capitalize at the beginning of each sentence, even though I've already activated the function in typing, how do I fix it?

Could you please confirm where you would like automatic capitalization to work? For example, does the issue occur in an Office application such as Word or Excel, in Outlook, or in another application?

If the issue occurs in Word or Excel, you can first refer to the steps provided in the AI-generated answer and check the AutoCorrect setting as follows:

Select AutoCorrect Options.
On the AutoCorrect tab, make sure "Capitalize first letter of sentences" is selected.
Select OK to save the setting.

If text is already typed in the wrong case in Word: Home > Change Case > Sentencec case.

Tip: To use a keyboard shortcut to change between lowercase, UPPERCASE, and Capitalize Each Word, select the text and press SHIFT + F3 until the case you want is applied.

If this option is already enabled but automatic capitalization still does not work, could you please confirm whether the issue occurs in every document or only in one specific file? Please also create a new blank document and check whether the same behavior occurs there.

To test the feature, type a word such as “hello” at the beginning of a sentence, then press the Spacebar or enter a punctuation mark. AutoCorrect should change the first letter to uppercase, resulting in “Hello.”

If this is in a Microsoft 365 desktop app such as Word or Excel, check the app’s AutoCorrect capitalization setting, not only the Windows typing setting.

For Word:

Select File > Options > Proofing.
Open AutoCorrect Options.
Make sure Capitalize first letter of sentences is enabled.

If text is already typed in the wrong case in Word:

Select the text.
Go to Home > Change Case.
Choose Sentence case.

For Excel:

Open the AutoCorrect settings.
On the AutoCorrect tab, make sure Capitalize first letter of sentences is selected.

If this issue is happening in Outlook on the web, auto-capitalization may not work the same way as in Word for the web even when Microsoft Editor settings are enabled. In that case, there may be no working fix in Outlook OWA beyond manual capitalization.
