What does "60% of page loads" mean in the Edge 152 unload event rollout?

Hello,

I have a question regarding the following statement in the Microsoft Edge 152 release notes:

"In Edge 152 and 153, unload handlers will stop firing by default for 60% of page loads."

Could Microsoft clarify what "60% of page loads" means in practice?

Specifically, I would like to understand how this rollout is applied. Is the percentage based on:

  • Users
  • Devices
  • Browser profiles
  • Sessions
  • Individual page loads
  • Or another rollout mechanism

As an enterprise administrator, understanding the rollout methodology would help evaluate potential impact and plan validation activities before the feature reaches 100% deployment.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

As I checked on Microsoft articles, there is currently no exact methodology for the 60% from Microsoft. However, based on the wording, my opinion that this could possibly not 60% of users or 60% devices, but rather it will be determined independently per navigation. In this case, I suggest that you could find a policy called ForcePermissionPolicyUnloadDefaultEnabled, which can force the current unload behavior while this gradually rollout to 100% of page loads, as I see, in Edge 155.
