Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For Outlook.com, there is no current documented service issue in the provided material that says deleted junk mail is expected to keep restoring. A past Outlook.com issue where deleted mail returned to the Inbox was marked fixed.
For the current behavior, use this end-to-end check:
- In Outlook on the web, open Junk Email and verify whether the same messages are reappearing there.
- Check Settings > Mail > Junk email.
- Review Blocked senders and Blocked domains.
- Remove any entries that should not be there.
- If a trusted sender is being misclassified, add it to Safe Senders.
- If the messages are legitimate mail that landed in Junk by mistake, open the message in Junk Email and select Report > Not junk.
- If the messages are just unwanted mail, keep using blocked senders/domains in Settings > Mail > Junk email so mail from those addresses or domains goes directly to Junk.
- If a mobile device is connected to the mailbox, check whether its mail app has a spam list configured. On Samsung devices using the default mail app, entries under Spam addresses can cause new messages to move to a Junk or Unwanted folder. Remove any incorrect entries there.
- If the issue continues, use Outlook.com support from Help in the menu bar and, if needed, the Still need help? option.
Useful limits and behavior from the documentation:
- In Outlook.com and Outlook on the web, junk email is retained for 30 days before automatic deletion.
- In Outlook on the web guidance for blocking/unblocking senders, email in Junk Email is described as being automatically removed after 14 days and not recoverable.
- Emails deleted from Outlook.com are reverting back to the Inbox
- Filter junk email and spam in Outlook
- Recover and restore deleted items in Outlook
- Block or unblock senders in Outlook
- New email messages automatically move to the Junk folder in Microsoft Outlook
- Mail goes to the Junk folder by mistake
