Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Michael,
I’ve seen Outlook Search act up like this before, so I’d start with a couple of quick checks. First, try pressing Ctrl + E in Outlook. If the search box still doesn’t respond, completely close Outlook and check the Windows Search service. You can do this by pressing Win + R, entering services.msc, finding Windows Search, and making sure it’s running.
If you can type in the search box but it isn’t finding your emails or calendar items, the search index may be the problem. Try Control Panel → Indexing Options → Advanced → Rebuild. The rebuild can take a little while, especially if you have a large mailbox, so it’s best to let it finish.
If none of this helps, I’d check whether the issue started after a recent Outlook or Windows update. It would be helpful to know the Outlook version/build and Windows version, as that can narrow down the cause quite a bit.
