A video editing tool developed by Microsoft, designed to make video creation easy and accessible for everyone.
For a 193 MB, 1:52h video, the file is within Microsoft Stream automatic transcription limits, but Clipchamp transcript generation can still fail if the app, browser, source file, extensions, firewall, or local resources interfere.
Try this end-to-end sequence:
- Reload and retry
- Reload the browser tab if using Clipchamp on the web, or close and reopen the Clipchamp Windows app.
- Start captioning again.
- Re-add the media
- Remove the clip from the project.
- Add the same file again.
- Retry auto-captioning.
- Convert the source to MP4 and retry
- Turn off auto-captioning.
- Export the project.
- Import the exported MP4 back into the project.
- Try captioning on that new clip.
- This is specifically recommended when the original file format or codecs are not being recognized correctly. Even if a file is already MP4, converting it can still help because the codecs inside the container may change.
- Test whether the issue is file-specific
- Try auto-captioning with a different source video.
- If another video works, the problem is likely with this input file.
- Check extensions and network blocking
- Disable privacy or ad-blocking browser extensions, or whitelist Clipchamp.
- Restart the browser and reload Clipchamp after changing extension settings.
- If on a corporate network, check whether the firewall is blocking connections to the Azure speech to text service. Testing on another Wi‑Fi network can help confirm this.
- Clear browser cache and restart the browser
- In Edge or Chrome, clear cached images and files for All time.
- Restart the browser, then retry.
- Free local resources
- Close other browser tabs and apps.
- Keep Clipchamp in the foreground while processing.
- Make sure free disk space is greater than the size of the media used in the project.
- Check the computer capacity
- Clipchamp can struggle on longer or heavier projects if the device is low on RAM, GPU capability, or disk space.
- 8 GB RAM is the minimum noted, with 16 GB or more preferred.
- If possible, test on another computer.
- If it still fails today
- This can also happen due to a temporary service-side issue.
- If the same file and other files continue to stay at 0% and fail after the steps above, contact Clipchamp Support.
Relevant limits and observations:
- Clipchamp has no fixed input file size limit, but large files can still cause performance issues.
- For Stream automatic transcripts, the documented limit is 1 GB and 4 hours, so the described file size and duration are not over that threshold.
