I am trying to create a new GroupMe profile with my new/recycled phone number. I believe my new number is connected to a previous account because GroupMe won’t allow me to use it. Is there a way to release the number from the previous account?

    Hi Divine,

    Each GroupMe account requires a unique phone number, so a recycled number may still be linked to its previous owner’s account. There is no self-service option to release it.

    Please contact GroupMe Customer Support and explain that the number was recently reassigned to you. Provide the number privately and, if requested, proof from your mobile carrier. Support can verify ownership and help detach it from the old account.
