Remove the old work account from Windows so the device stops trying to authenticate it.
- Open Settings on Windows 10.
- Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
- Select the old company account.
- Choose Disconnect.
- Select Yes to confirm.
This removes the account’s sign-in information and data from the device. It does not delete the account itself.
If the prompt is tied to a work account that was added only for app sign-in, removing it from Access work or school is the documented way to remove it from Windows. If the device where the account was added is no longer available, the device can be managed from the Microsoft account device list and Disable lost device can be used.
If Windows still prompts after disconnecting, accepted Microsoft Q&A guidance for this exact scenario is:
- Open Control Panel > Credential Manager.
- Open Windows Credentials.
- Remove saved credentials related to the old organization account.
- Restart the PC.
