Hello Microsoft Team,

I am a university student from India and I am trying to sign up for Azure for Students. During the registration process, I enter my personal details, country, and university name. However, when I submit the application, I receive a message saying that my account cannot be accepted/created.

I am currently enrolled as a university student, but I am unable to complete the Azure for Students registration. I also do not have a verification code, although the field appears to be optional.

Could you please help me understand why my registration is being rejected and what I need to do to verify my student status and gain access to Azure for Students?

I would also like to know whether there are any specific eligibility requirements or verification steps for students in India.

    Hello Sukanya, when the Azure for Students registration says your account can’t be accepted/created, it’s usually because the automated verification can’t confirm one or more eligibility details (often school participation, age/enrollment, or whether the verification email/domain matches what Microsoft can validate).

    What the eligibility rules generally require

    For Azure for Students (the $100/12-month credit offer), you must:

    • Be 18 or older
    • Be a full-time student at an accredited, degree-granting two-year or four-year institution
    • Verify your academic status using your organization/school email address
    • It must not be for a MOOC or other ineligible training

    If any of those don’t match what the verifier can validate, you’ll typically get a rejection/“ineligible” type message.

    Common reasons you might be rejected (and what to do)

    1. Your school’s email domain isn’t recognized/eligible
      • Even if you’re an active student, some domains aren’t currently eligible for verification.
      • In that case, you’ll need manual verification via Azure for Education support (see contact link below).
    2. You selected the wrong student offer for your situation
      • There is also Azure for Students Starter (free tier for K–12 students, not university students).

    I think Azure Student just depends on the simple stuff — being 18+, enrolled at an accredited university, and using your campus‑issued email. There aren’t any India‑specific rules.

    The catch is that some university mail domains just don’t get picked up by Azure at all, so even real students can get rejected. Trying again with the official campus mailbox is still the first move, but if your domain isn’t in their dataset, it won’t go through no matter how many times you retry. When that happens, the only thing left is opening a ticket with Microsoft Support so they can look at it manually.
