If the invite to Microsoft 365 Family shows a generic “something went wrong, try again later” message, use these checks in order:
- Make sure the invitation is still valid. Invitation links must be accepted within 48 hours. If the link is older than that, ask the organizer to resend it.
- Open the invitation in a different browser or a private/incognito window. This helps if the current browser session is using the wrong Microsoft account or cached sign-in data.
- Sign in with the correct Microsoft account before accepting. The account that accepts the invite must be the same account intended to receive the Microsoft 365 Family benefit.
- Check whether the account is already in another family group. If it is, it must leave that family group before it can join the organizer’s family group.
- Ask the organizer to verify the invitation status. The organizer should check whether the invitation is still pending and resend it if needed.
- If email acceptance keeps failing, ask the organizer to resend the invitation through SMS or a social media app.
- After accepting, allow some time for the benefit to appear. In some cases, it can take up to 24 hours for the shared subscription to show on the account.
If the issue is specifically that the account is already in a family group, leaving that group first is required before the shared subscription can be joined.
