Azure Application Registration: Add myself back as the enterprise application owner

I created this app registration, but I accidentally deleted myself from the owner of the enterprise application under (https://portal.azure.com/)"https://portal.azure.com/)") > More Services > Identity > Enterprise Applications > App Name > Owners. Now this app has no enterprise owners. Is there a way to add myself back?

Yes. An ownerless enterprise application can have a new owner assigned by:

  • an existing owner, or
  • a user with a privileged role such as Application Administrator or Cloud Application Administrator.

If administrative access is still available, the fix is:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center with an account that has Application Administrator or Cloud Application Administrator.
  2. Go to Enterprise Applications > All applications.
  3. Select the enterprise application.
  4. Open Owners.
  5. Add the user account back as an owner.

If the current account does not have one of those admin roles, a tenant administrator must assign one of those roles first, or perform the owner assignment directly.

If the application has no owners, the Roles and Administrators tab and the audit log can help identify who has been involved with the app so the correct owner can be assigned. As a best practice, keep at least two owners on the application to avoid this situation again.
