Unable to sync OneNote to all my devices

I have a desktop OneNote. I have used it for years with no problems. Lately, I have had some problems with syncing but I have been able to fix it. Yesterday, I worked on a section on my iPhone, later on my OneNote Mac App I created two sections. Then I noticed OneNote was a little difference on all my devices. I guess whatever I did on one device did not change on the rest of my devices. Can you help?

Good day Luis Vila,

From what you described, I understand that recent changes made on your iPhone and Mac are no longer syncing consistently across your devices.

Before troubleshooting, please copy any important unsynced pages or sections to a safe location. Then sign out of OneNote on the affected devices, restart OneNote and your Mac, and sign back in using the same Microsoft account.

Next, manually sync the affected notebook on both your Mac and iPhone by following the instructions in this article: Sync a notebook in OneNote

If the issue continues, open the notebook list and check for a yellow warning triangle beside the affected notebook. Hover over it and please share the exact error code or message displayed if available.

Thank you so much Norah. Just saw your response. I will follow your recommendations but just wanted to share my last experience.

Yesterday, I downloaded something from a website to OneNote and it appeared on all my devises’ apps and of course on the cloud. I made corrections and formatting on that page at different times, in different devices and all of them synced the new page but other previous differences remained.

This morning I created a “Test” folder with a page on my iPhone but didn’t see anywhere. I tried to sync but as it has happened before it little circles keeps on going around and around…

On my Mac’s app it says:

“Saved offline (error)”

my iPad seems be able to sync but only with the cloud.

Thank you for the update. What you described suggests that OneNote synchronization is still only working partially. The fact that some changes sync across devices while new pages, such as your "Test" page, do not appear elsewhere, along with the "Saved offline (error)" message on your Mac, points to an ongoing sync issue rather than a problem with a specific device.

Please go ahead with the suggested steps and let me know whether the Mac still shows the error afterward, and whether the "Test" page eventually appears in OneNote on the web.

Hi Norah,

I did all your recommendations last night and, even though I lost some pages, I was able to sync all the pages and sections. Then I copied the missing pages.

But of course, something weird happened me today. I had a page that I was working on and off throughout the day at home and somewhere else and all of a sudden it disappeared!!! No where to be found… searched notebooks, trash, etc., in vain. But I just had to redo the whole page again. No big deal, I just wanted to share the experience! LOL

Regarding the disappearing page, a few things may help reduce the chances of this happening again: make sure OneNote finishes syncing before switching devices, avoid editing the same page simultaneously on multiple devices, and periodically check that the notebook shows 'Up to date' after major edits.
