A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
To use Hebrew inside Word without changing the whole Office display language, add Hebrew as an authoring language and, if needed, a keyboard layout.
- Open Word.
- Go to File > Options > Language.
- Under Office authoring languages and proofing, check whether Hebrew is listed.
- If it is not listed, select Add a Language..., choose Hebrew, and add it.
- If Hebrew appears in the list, select it and choose Set as Preferred if Hebrew will be used often for writing.
- If Word shows Proofing available, install the proofing tools. If it shows Proofing installed, Hebrew spelling/proofing is ready.
This changes the authoring/proofing language, not the whole Office interface. The display language and authoring language can be set independently.
If the goal is only to type Hebrew text:
- Add the Hebrew keyboard layout in Windows.
- After the keyboard is added, use the Language bar on the taskbar to switch keyboards, or press ALT + SHIFT to toggle through installed keyboards.
- Type in Word using the Hebrew keyboard.
If only part of a document should use Hebrew for spelling and grammar:
- Select the Hebrew text in Word.
- Go to Review > Language > Set Proofing Language.
- Choose Hebrew for the selected text.
If Word does not reliably detect mixed English/Hebrew text, turn on automatic detection:
- Go to Review > Language.
- Select Language > Set Proofing Language.
- Enable Detect language automatically.
For right-to-left typing and layout, once right-to-left languages are enabled, the Left-to-right and Right-to-left paragraph buttons become available on the ribbon in most Microsoft 365 apps.
