Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Try these checks in Outlook on the web:
- Check whether the inbox is sorted the wrong way. In the message list, look at the Received column header and make sure it is showing newest messages first, not oldest first.
- Check other folders where mail may have been moved.
Look in Junk Email, Deleted Items, and Archive.
- If a message is in Junk Email, mark it as Not junk.
- In Outlook.com, messages in Junk Email are automatically removed after 30 days and aren’t recoverable.
- Check the Other tab if Focused Inbox is enabled. Important messages may be landing there instead of Focused. If a message is there, use Move to > Move to Focused inbox.
- Check for rules or forwarding that may be moving mail.
In Outlook on the web, review:
- Settings > Mail > Rules
- Settings > Mail > Forwarding
- If the issue is only with older messages not appearing in search or folder views in Outlook apps, increase how much mail is saved offline. In new Outlook for Windows: Settings > General > Offline > Days of email to save, then choose a longer period and select Save.
Since new mail appears in the mobile Outlook app, the mailbox is still receiving messages. The most relevant checks for the web browser are sort order, Focused/Other, Junk, and mail rules/forwarding.
