Spam pop-ups are often caused by browser pop-ups, website notifications, malicious ads, or extensions. In Microsoft Edge, the pop-up blocker is turned on by default, but these steps can help stop them:

1. Turn on pop-up blocking in Edge:
   • Open Microsoft Edge.
   • Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Pop-ups and redirects.
   • Make sure Block (recommended) is enabled.
2. If pop-ups still appear, update Edge:
   • Open Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
   • If an update is available, it installs automatically.
   • Restart Edge if prompted.
3. Turn off extensions to find the cause:
   • Open Settings and more > Extensions > Manage extensions.
   • Turn off all installed extensions.

5. Clear the browser cache:

6. Scan the device for malware:

7. If a pop-up shows a phone number or claims the PC is infected, do not call the number.
   • Microsoft error and warning messages do not include a phone number.
   • These are commonly tech support scams.

Important limits:

• Website advertisements that are designed to look like pop-ups cannot be blocked by the Microsoft Edge pop-up blocker.
• Edge also does not prevent a pop-up from opening if a button or link on a webpage was selected.
