    Use this order:

    1. Scan the PC for malware before changing anything else
      • Open Windows Security.
      • Go to Virus and threat protection.
      • Select Scan options > Full scan > Scan now.
      • This is important because if malware is still on the PC, a new password can be stolen again.
    2. Reset or change the Microsoft account password
      • If sign-in still works anywhere, change the password at Sign in.
      • If sign-in does not work, use Recover your account.
      • During recovery, enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in, choose where to receive the security code, enter the code, and set a new password.
    3. Use the sign-in helper if the account is blocked or recovery is failing
      • Start with Sign-in Helper.
      • This can guide to self-help steps or the option to talk to support.
    4. Check Outlook.com settings that hackers commonly change
      • Review connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies and remove anything unfamiliar.
      • If email is going to Deleted Items or not arriving, also check for suspicious mail rules and forwarding settings in Outlook.com settings and remove anything not created intentionally.
    5. Check sign-in and security details
      • If access is restored, review account security info and remove any recovery email addresses, phone numbers, aliases, or devices that are not recognized.
      • Then change the password again.
    6. If the account still cannot be recovered
      • Use Contact Microsoft Support or the support option offered by the sign-in helper.
      • Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details, but the support flow can route to the right help option.

If email is being moved to Deleted Items, that strongly suggests account settings such as rules or forwarding were changed and should be checked as soon as access is restored.
