Problem description

I am unable to create an Azure Database for MySQL flexible server in my chosen region using the Azure CLI. The operation fails immediately with the error message: "Provisioning in requested region is not supported. Your subscription might not have access to create a server in the selected region." I need assistance understanding why this is happening and how to resolve it.

Environment

Azure Database for MySQL flexible server, deployment via Azure CLI, region not specified in the case information.

What I've already tried

I ran the CLI command to create a MySQL flexible server in the specified region and received the region-restriction error. No additional troubleshooting steps, such as verifying resource provider registration, region support, or subscription quotas, have been documented.

Current status

I am seeking guidance on how to proceed to successfully provision the server, including verifying region support, resource provider registration, and any subscription restrictions that may be causing this issue.

The error ProvisionNotSupportedForRegion generally indicates that provisioning Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server is currently restricted for your subscription in the selected region. This can be due to regional capacity/subscription restrictions, or the selected SKU/availability zone not being available for your subscription.

To help determine the exact cause, could you please provide the details in private message:

The Azure region you are trying to use

The MySQL Flexible Server SKU/vCores and availability zone, if specified

The complete Azure CLI command being used (please remove any credentials/secrets)

Your subscription type (for example, Pay-As-You-Go, CSP, sponsored/trial, etc.)

In the meantime, you can check whether the required SKU is available in the region using:

az mysql flexible-server list-skus --location <region>

If the region itself is restricted for your subscription, Microsoft recommends submitting a Region access request under Service and subscription limits (quotas) for Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server.

Once you share the above details, we can help narrow down whether this is a region-access, capacity, SKU, or subscription restriction.

Thank you for posting the question.

It appears that the MySQL Flexible Server database is not available in that region.

You may try another region closest to your customers. Can you also try creating the Azure Database for MySQL using the Azure Portal in your that region?

You can check Product Availability by Region using the following link and search for Azure Database for MySQL:

Request region access

Go to Create a Support Request

Choose: Service and subscription limits (quotas)

Select: Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server

Under Additional details:

Choose Region access
Select required region and cores

Submit the request.
