Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
For classic Outlook for Windows, try these steps in order:
- Check whether Outlook is offline.
- Look at the bottom of the Outlook window.
- If it shows Disconnected, Working Offline, or Trying to connect..., go to Send/Receive on the ribbon and select Work Offline to switch back online.
- Then try Send/Receive again.
- If the email password was changed recently, update it in Outlook.
- Select the email account name.
- When the sign-in pop-up appears, select Continue.
- Enter the new password and complete sign-in.
- If Outlook says Please create an app password for Outlook on your email provider's site:
- Go to the email provider’s site.
- Generate an app password there.
- Use that app password in Outlook instead of the normal password.
- If the account is locked, check the account directly with the provider.
- A locked account can prevent send/receive from working.
- If the provider offers webmail, sign in there first to confirm whether the mailbox is accessible.
- If the account was blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, it may need to be unblocked before Outlook can reconnect.
- If Outlook.com is the mailbox, also check whether storage is full.
- If Microsoft cloud storage is full, mail cannot be sent or received.
The error description send/receive error also matches common Outlook connection errors such as 0x800ccc0d, 0x800ccc0f, 0x80042109, and 0x8004210a.
