my outlook.com email is not showing emails for a 36hr period in recent days. They are missing on all devices. I had seen them at the time however now not visible. Took no actions, they have just disappeared.

Since the messages are missing on all devices, this points to the mailbox state rather than a single app or device issue. For Outlook.com, the most useful checks are:

  1. Check Deleted Items
    • Open Deleted Items.
    • If the missing messages are there, select them and choose Restore.
    • If they are not there, in Deleted Items select Recover items deleted from this folder and restore any matching messages.
    • Messages removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days.
  2. Check Archive
    • Open the Archive folder.
    • If the missing messages are there, select them and choose Move to > Inbox.
  3. Check Junk Email
    • Open Junk Email.
    • If the messages are there, select them and choose Report > Not junk.
    • Messages in Junk Email are automatically removed after 30 days and are not recoverable.
  4. Check Focused Inbox / Other
    • If Focused Inbox is enabled, open the Other tab and look for the missing messages.
    • If found, move them back to Focused inbox.
  5. Clear any message filter
    • Above the message list, select Filter and set it to All.
    • Also check whether the list sort changed. If messages appear out of order, set Filter > Sort > Date.
  6. Check rules
    • Go to Rules settings and review any Inbox or Sweep rules that could be moving messages out of Inbox.
    • Edit or delete any incorrect rule.
    • Rules can only be viewed and edited on a computer.
  7. Check recent account activity
    • If messages disappeared without any action, review the account’s Recent activity page for unusual sign-ins.
  8. If using Outlook desktop for the same mailbox
    • A folder view filter can hide items without deleting them.
    • In Outlook, go to View > View Settings > Filter and review filters such as date received, read/unread, sender/recipient, importance, or size.

If the missing 36-hour block is not in Deleted Items, Recover deleted items, Archive, Junk Email, Other, and no rule or filter explains it, use Outlook.com support from Help in the menu bar and then Still need help?

Thank you - I found the missing 60 or more emails in the Archive Folder and moved back to inbox, however don't understand what shifted a large sequence of emails into that folder?
