A customizable group messaging space within the GroupMe app, designed for seamless communication among friends, classmates, teams, or communities.
GroupMe accounts are tied to the sign-in method and mobile number used for that account. A mobile number can be associated with only one account, and a phone number is required when creating a new account.
If messages sent from his phone appear as coming from the administrator account, the app is likely signed in to the wrong existing account rather than a separate new one.
Try this end-to-end:
- Fully sign out or uninstall GroupMe from his phone.
- Reinstall GroupMe and open it.
- During setup, make sure he signs in with his own credentials, not the administrator account credentials.
- He can use Sign in with Microsoft if that is his own Microsoft account.
- If he previously used Facebook, GroupMe no longer supports the Facebook login button. In that case, sign in with the email address associated with his Facebook account, then use Forgot Password if needed.
- Enter his own phone number and complete the PIN verification.
- If GroupMe says There is already an account with this phone number, that means his number is already attached to an existing account. In that case, sign in to that existing account instead of creating a new one.
- If sign-in fails or hangs, force-close and reopen the app, update to the latest version, or try signing in on the web at groupme.com.
- If the account still appears linked incorrectly, reset the password at forgot_password using each email address he may have used.
- If none of those email addresses work, contact GroupMe support and include his phone number and any email addresses that may be associated with his account.
If the goal is a completely separate GroupMe identity from the administrator account, the key requirement is that he must sign in with his own account credentials and his own mobile number.
