Unable to activate Azure for Students benefit from GitHub Student Developer Pack

Hello Microsoft Azure Support/Community,

I am a student trying to activate/access Azure for Students through my GitHub Student Developer Pack.

I claimed my GitHub Student Developer Pack in December 2025. When I try to access Azure, I repeatedly receive the following error:

AADSTS16000: User account from identity provider live.com does not exist in tenant "Microsoft Services" and cannot access the Azure Portal application.

I have also received AADSTS50020 with the same Microsoft Services tenant issue.

I tried signing out and signing in again and also tried using an Incognito/InPrivate browser window. However, the problem persists.

I also tried the Azure for Students signup page, but it displayed:

"You do not have access. Sorry but our systems are detecting a problem with your account and are unable to validate your access."

The problem is preventing me from accessing Azure and also preventing me from opening an Azure support request because the support portal redirects me back to the same authentication error.

Could you please help me determine whether my Azure for Students benefit was correctly provisioned/associated with my account and help me regain access?

Quick note first: nobody on Q&A can look into your account or confirm what subscriptions exist on it. That needs a support ticket. But your screenshots tell a clear story, so here is what's actually happening.

The AADSTS16000/50020 errors are a symptom, not the root problem. Your personal (live.com) account has no Azure directory yet because the Azure for Students signup never completed. So when the portal loads, it has no tenant of your own to sign you into and falls back to the "Microsoft Services" tenant, where your account doesn't exist. Those errors will disappear on their own once signup succeeds.

The real blocker is the "unable to validate your access" message. That comes from Microsoft's automated identity and eligibility validation during signup. Having an active GitHub Student Pack does not bypass this, Azure for Students still runs its own verification (age 18+, accredited institution, school email). Things that commonly fix it: Microsoft Learn

1. Check your Microsoft account profile at https://account.microsoft.com/profile. Name, birthdate, phone number and country/region must be accurate and complete. A missing birthdate, age under 18, or a country mismatch with your actual location are the most common triggers for this block. Microsoft Learn
2. Sign up directly at https://azure.microsoft.com/free/students with that personal account, and verify using your official school email when asked.
3. Turn off any VPN, and try from a completely different browser profile or device, not just InPrivate. Also try a different network (mobile hotspot instead of campus WiFi). Microsoft Learn
4. If you've made several attempts recently, wait 24 to 48 hours before trying again, as repeated failures trigger a temporary validation cooldown. Microsoft Learn

On your duplicate subscription worry: nothing has been created. The validation failure happens before any subscription exists, and Azure for Students doesn't ask for a card, so there is no way this flow creates a paid subscription or charges you.

If it still fails after the profile fix and cooldown, only support can lift the validation block. Create a free account/subscription management support request following https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-portal/supportability/how-to-create-azure-support-request and include the transaction ID and message code if the error page shows one. If the Help + support blade throws the token error again, click Ignore and it usually loads anyway.

The AADSTS16000/AADSTS50020 errors indicate that the Microsoft account is being authenticated in the wrong tenant.

Since the Azure for Students signup itself is failing with “You do not have access,” I would first verify that the GitHub Student Developer Pack and Azure for Students are being activated with the same Microsoft account.

If the issue continues after checking the account profile and trying another browser/network, the next step would be to contact Microsoft Azure support so they can check the account’s eligibility and tenant association.

I also tried accessing the official Azure for Students signup page in an InPrivate/Incognito window. Instead of allowing me to complete the student verification/activation, it shows: “You do not have access — our systems are detecting a problem with your account and are unable to validate your access.” I have already tried signing out and signing in again, using an InPrivate/Incognito window, and accessing Azure through the Azure for Students page, but the issue persists.

Please can you tell e if you are signing in using a Microsoft personal account or a university/school account?

I am a verified student and I claimed the GitHub Student Developer Pack in December 2025. I am now trying to activate/use the Azure for Students benefit included with the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

I would also like to point out that just because you have a GitHub Student Developer pack, you will still need to apply for the Azure Students Subscription. This uses a separate verification method compared to the GitHub Student Developer pack, unfortunately.

Yeah actually it was mistake from my side. I was directly sign in to Microsoft azure without even creating my student account. That's why this issue arise.
