A product key is not always stored as readable text on the laptop. Windows 10 and 11 may instead use a digital license, so the main goal is to confirm whether Windows can activate rather than recover the key itself.

Besides the solutions provided by the Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

Open Settings > System > Activation. If Windows is not activated, select Troubleshoot while signed in with the Microsoft account previously used on this laptop. If the motherboard was replaced, choose I changed hardware on this device recently and select the laptop from the device list.

Check the original purchase source. For a boxed copy, look for a card or label inside the packaging. For an online retailer, check the confirmation email or the retailer’s digital download library. If Windows came with the laptop, check for a Certificate of Authenticity sticker and contact the laptop manufacturer with the serial number.

Confirm that the installed edition matches the license, such as Home or Pro. A Home license cannot activate Windows Pro.

Avoid third-party “key finder” websites, as they may display only a generic installation key. See Find your Windows product key for the supported locations.

It has been a while and I am writing to see how things are going with this issue.

For Windows on a laptop, the product key may not need to be viewed at all if the device came with Windows preinstalled. On many laptops, the key is embedded in the device firmware (UEFI/BIOS), and Windows activates automatically after reinstalling.

To try to view the embedded Windows product key:

Open Command Prompt.
Run:

wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

If a key is stored in firmware, it will be displayed.

If that command shows nothing, try PowerShell or Terminal (Admin) and run:

(Get-WmiObject -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey

If the laptop originally came with Windows Home or another OEM edition, a clean reinstall of that same edition can activate automatically without entering a product key.

If Windows was purchased digitally from Microsoft, check the Microsoft account used for the purchase. If proof of purchase is available and the key is lost or damaged, Microsoft support may be able to help.
