Paint 11.2605.71.0 – corrupted/duplicated image when copying a selection to clipboard

I encountered a strange clipboard issue with Microsoft Paint 11.2605.71.0 on Windows 11.

My normal workflow is:

Take a full-screen screenshot.
Paste it into Paint.
Select a rectangular part of the image.
Copy the selection (Ctrl+C).
Paste it into an Outlook email.

Recently, the pasted image started appearing corrupted. The original image was visible in the background, but another copy of part of the same image appeared horizontally shifted on top of it and clipped at the image boundary.

Initially I suspected Outlook, but I tested several destinations:

Paint → Paint: image pasted correctly
Paint → Outlook: corrupted/duplicated image
Paint → browser/ChatGPT: same corrupted/duplicated image

This suggests that Paint may be placing multiple image representations/formats on the Windows clipboard, and Paint itself reads a correct one while other applications may read a corrupted one.

An interesting workaround:

I opened:

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Paint → Advanced options

I tried:

Repair → failed
Reset → failed
Uninstall → failed with error 0x80073CF1

However, after these failed attempts, without rebooting Windows, I tested the exact same workflow again:

Screenshot → Paint → Select → Copy → Outlook

and the clipboard image was suddenly completely normal again.

The PC had not been rebooted for approximately 1–2 weeks and had mostly been using Sleep/Wake during that period.

So it appears that attempting Repair/Reset/Uninstall may have refreshed or restarted some Paint/AppX/clipboard state, even though the operations themselves reported failure.

This is a reported bug in the latest version of the Paint app, when copying and pasting a section of an image pastes a double image, thank you for your workaround.

If you are just using Paint to take a rectangle section of the pasted screenshot, until Microsoft fix the problem in Paint, don't use Paint, the best option is to use Win + Shift + S to take the screenshot, that will open the Snipping Tool app and you can directly select a rectangle section of your screen when taking the screenshot and paste that into Outlook or any other app and it will paste correctly.

eee.. . snipping tol is too slow for me ... i need quick and fast print screen and as fast is possible paste ... that snipping toll is waste of time for me because i take my time later to arrange picture .. only when i am not in time limit.

additionally that new paint become too slow... disaster ... probably is made for more sophisticated job .. but there should be some enable/disable of those sopfisticated options .. i need simple paint as is in win10, for exaple.

Okay, then the best option is to open the Feedback Hub app and report the problems in the Paint app to the Windows developers there, that is where they will see your feedback and if more people report the clipboard problem in that app, they will fix it and provide a patched update to resolve the problem.

eee.. . snipping tol is too slow for me ... i need quick and fast print screen and as fast is possible paste ... that snipping toll is waste of time for me because i take my time later to arrange picture .. only when i am not in time limit.
