Try these Windows 11 checks first:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
- Check whether the device is set to sleep after a short time when plugged in.
- Increase the When plugged in values for:
- Turn my screen off after
- Make my device sleep after
- If the device is restarting or shutting down unexpectedly instead of only sleeping, treat it as an unexpected restart issue:
- Remove any newly added hardware.
- Start the PC in safe mode.
- Right-click Start > Device Manager and look for devices with an exclamation mark. Update the driver for those devices. If that does not help, try disabling or uninstalling the device.
- Make sure the drive has about 10% to 15% free space.
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and install the latest updates.
- If the problem continues, try restoring Windows 11 with a restore point or another recovery option.
- If the problem happens only when USB-C charging is used, check for USB-C warnings:
- Select Search, type usb, and open USB settings.
- Check whether Windows is showing USB connection notifications such as Slow charger, PC isn't charging, or USB device might need more power.
- If the laptop is on Windows 11 version 23H2 and the issue is that shutdown or hibernation causes a restart, install the latest Windows update. A known issue affecting some PCs with Secure Launch or VSM after the January 13, 2026 security update was resolved by updates released on February 10, 2026 and later.
