To check which account has the Copilot upgrade applied:

    1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 at m365.cloud.microsoft.
    2. On the home page, scroll to the bottom to view the account.
    3. Check the label under the account name:
      • Copilot Chat (Basic): no Copilot add-on license.
      • M365 Copilot (Basic): no Copilot add-on license, but standard access in apps.
      • M365 Copilot (Premium): Copilot add-on license is assigned.

If Excel Copilot is not working today, check these common causes:

    1. Make sure the correct account is signed in
      • On microsoft365.com, check the profile in the upper-right.
      • If needed, choose Sign in with a different account.
      • If the workbook is from work or school, use the work or school account that has the Copilot license.
    2. Check the file location
      • If the file is stored in a third-party storage location, Copilot can show license validation or related errors.
      • Move or copy the file to OneDrive or SharePoint, then try again.
    3. If using Excel for the web, allow third-party cookies
      • In Microsoft Edge: Settings and More > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
      • Make sure Block third-party cookies is Off.
    4. If the Copilot button seems missing in Excel
      • First look in the lower-right corner of the workbook for the Copilot Dynamic Action Button.
      • The entry point changed, but the Excel Copilot features did not.
    5. Refresh the license in the app
      • Windows: File > Account > Update License, then restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
      • Mac: app menu > About <app name> > More Info... > Refresh License, then restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
    6. Check update channel on Windows business devices
      • If the device is on Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, Copilot features are not available in the apps.
      • Copilot in apps requires Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel.
      • The web versions of Microsoft 365 apps can be used in the meantime.
    7. Check privacy settings if the button is still missing
      • In the app privacy settings, confirm Experiences that analyze your content is turned on.
      • Also confirm All connected experiences is turned on.
      • If Microsoft 365 is managed by an organization, these settings may be controlled by IT.
    8. If the workbook shows an unsupported file state in Excel
      • If the file is checked out in SharePoint, check it back in, then close and reopen it.
      • If the organization requires check-out for editing in SharePoint, Copilot in Excel on Windows or Mac will not work for files from that site; use Excel for the web instead.
      • If the file format is unsupported, save it as Excel Workbook (.xlsx).
