This usually points to an Excel-specific Copilot availability issue rather than a problem with Word. The Copilot entry point is expected in the lower corner, and if it does not open correctly in Excel, the most common causes are build level, license refresh, update channel, or privacy settings.
Try these steps in Excel:
- Update Microsoft 365
- Open Excel.
- Go to File > Account.
- Install the latest Office updates.
- Refresh the license
- In Excel, go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close all Microsoft 365 apps.
- Reopen Excel.
- Check the update channel
- In Excel, go to File > Account.
- In Product Information, check whether the app is on Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel.
- Copilot features are not available in apps on that channel. If that channel is shown, the supported channels are Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel.
- If the device is organization-managed, the channel change may require internal IT support. The web version of Microsoft 365 apps can be used in the meantime.
- Check privacy settings
- In Excel, go to File > Account.
- Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
- Confirm these are turned on:
- Experiences that analyze your content
- All connected experiences
- If Excel is managed by an organization, these settings may be controlled by IT.
- Confirm Copilot requirements are met
- If the button is present but Excel Copilot does not stay available, verify that the app version, license, network, and privacy settings meet the Microsoft Copilot requirements.
Also note:
- Copilot features themselves have not changed; only the entry point changed to the Dynamic Action Button.
- The rollout is app-wide for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, so different behavior between Word and Excel on the same device usually indicates an app-specific configuration issue.
