In an S2D cluster, if an SSD is marked as Non-Operational Degraded due to an unapproved firmware version, it must be updated uniformly via PowerShell's Update-StorageFirmware. First, run Get-PhysicalDisk | Get-StorageFirmwareInformation on the cluster nodes to confirm the current firmware version and available update packages. Then, use Update-StorageFirmware -PhysicalDisk <DiskID> -ImagePath <firmware.bin> to specify the firmware image file for the update. It is crucial to execute this within the maintenance window and update only a subset of disks at a time to avoid affecting the entire pool simultaneously.

After the update is complete, use Get-PhysicalDisk to verify that the disk status has returned to Healthy, and check Get-StoragePool to confirm pool consistency. Note that the firmware image must come from the hardware vendor's official package; Microsoft only provides the API and does not provide the firmware file. If the drive supports online updates, the command will complete without interrupting I/O; otherwise, a node restart may be required.
