i forgot my hp laptop password

If the laptop uses a Microsoft account to sign in, use one of these supported reset methods:

1. On the Windows sign-in screen, select I forgot my password.
2. If available, select Sign-in options > Web sign-in, sign in, then select Forgot my password.
3. From another device or browser, use Reset password.

If already signed in with a PIN, the Microsoft account password can be changed in: Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Password > Change. If the current password is forgotten, select Forgot my current password and complete verification.

If the laptop uses a local account instead:

1. On the sign-in screen, select the arrow next to the password field.
2. Select OK > Reset password.
3. Answer the security questions set when the account was created.

If a password reset disk was created earlier for a local account, insert the USB drive and use it to reset the password. This option is only for local accounts, not Microsoft accounts.

If none of those options work, Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password. For a new device with no important data, a Reset this PC from Windows Recovery Environment is the supported last resort. Warning: choosing Remove everything erases apps, settings, and personal data on the device.
